The map
La Tour-en-Maurienne is a new commune created on 1ᵉʳ January 2019 and resulting from the merger of the communes of Le Châtel, Hermillon and Pontamafrey-Montpascal.
Hermillon benefits from an excellent climate, the best evidence of which is the vines that climb up the slopes of the Châtel. Several wild tulip vines grow spontaneously each spring. Descendants of bulbs planted several centuries ago or true endemic species to the massif? In any case, this pretty and mysterious plant is the pride of the commune.
Le Châtel stretches from Hermillon at an altitude of 500 metres to the summit of the Grand coin at 2730m. The presence of an ancient Roman road explains why this plateau has been occupied for a long time and dotted with ancient buildings. True cradle of the House of Savoy, the Berold Tower of Saxony, whose origin remains mysterious, has dominated the Maurienne valley for more than 1000 years.
Pontamafrey-Montpascal. On the banks of the arch stretches Pontamafrey while
Montpascal dominates the valley between the Chaussy pass and the Grand Coin site. At the beginning of the summer, magnificent orange lilies reach 60cm high in the grassy vires. On the left bank of the arch, the immaculately designed chapel has remained true to its rocky appearance since its construction in 1855.
In Savoie, in the Maurienne valley, at an altitude of 1,800m, La Toussuire is ideally situated on a plateau open to 360° over the surrounding massifs. Benefiting from exceptional sunshine, it is an ideal summer resort for family sports.
In the heart of the “largest cycling area in the world®”, close to 11 mythical passes, surrounded by about sixty road itineraries and about twenty FFC-labelled mountain bike circuits, La Toussuire offers an ideal space for sports enthusiasts.
The plateau of La Toussuire opens onto a gentle and accessible mountain that is pleasant to walk through on hikes lasting from a few hours to several days. From the resort or after a short ascent by ski lift, the discovery of the panoramas, the fauna and the flora is immediately present and leads to the four corners of a territory particularly adapted to the practice in family.
Easy and fun, theme trails and orientation courses motivate the youngest to take up easy hiking.
